Grandma’s Marathon Champion (2), London Marathon Champion and the unforgettable finish of the 1982 Boston Marathon known as the “Duel in the Sun” with fellow competitor Alberto Salazar is stuff of legends. His running career was so diverse as Dick is the fastest American born marathoner and holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records with 13 consecutive personal-bests in Marathon. His amazing career earned him a place in the distinguished National Distance Running Hall of Fame in 2010.
Today Dick shares his life story at speaking engagements across the country. He wrote a book titled Staying the Course: A Runners Toughest Race. Dick is also a life-long outdoorsman who shares his passion for the outdoors as a fishing guide in Bemidji, Minnesota where he and his wife Jill operate a Bed and Breakfast on the shores of Lake Bemidji.
